different and excellent IMHO Nice sounding SB. Brent's B-3 sounds sweet. Many thanks to Grateful Dead and Internet Archive and all tapers and helpers . Aloha

Weak first set, recovers in second
The first set is a below average with a few high spots. Bob’s vocals are weak and the playing is sloppy. Dancing in the Streets is terrible. They hadn’t

played it in a while, and it sounds like it. Bad vocals and instrumentals dropping out as if they forgot how to play it. Nothing like the tight and funky versions of ’77, ’78. They also seem to lose their way in El Paso. The highlights are the Lazy lightning/Suplication jam, the Bird Song jam, which has some rising and falling of intensity. Deal heats up during the jam, and the set ends much better than it started. The first set gets 2 stars. The 2nd set is much better, 4 stars. I can’t hear Women are Smarter without thinking of the version done on I Love Lucy, but this one isn’t bad. A solid Candyman and Estimated Prophet. There’s a nice transition into Eyes. The hyper speed of this Eyes is faster than I care for it, but a lot of fans will enjoy it. Jerry gives us a good performance of Black Peter. The closing rockers are so far above the first set that hard to believe they’re from the same show. For excellent shows from this tour, try 5-15-81, 5-16-81, and 7-4-81.

Sound is not the best...but!
The sound quality is not that great, but I really dig this first set. Eclectic list and very consistent first set. Just seems to get stronger with each

new song. The combinations in the first set are unique and seem to fit perfectly (ie 3 song opener and closer). Haven't heard the second set, but really enjoy chilling to this one--nothing extraordinary, just quality Dead.
